Masjid Study Circle

Create quiet, welcoming study spaces with free after-school tutoring and mentoring for students from under-resourced families.

About this campaign

Empowering students from under-resourced families through after-school tutoring and mentoring at neighborhood Masajid

Campaign Goal: Establish Masjid Study Circles at 10 Masajid during the 2026–2027 academic year.

One-Time Setup Cost: $1,500 per Masjid Study Circle for furniture and fixtures.

Annual Operating Cost: $600 per Masjid Study Circle—just $50 per month.

Sponsor a Study Circle: Subscribe for $50 per month to support one Masjid Study Circle.

Invite your relatives and friends to participate. Encouraging someone to support a worthy cause can itself be a source of reward and Sadaqah Jariyah.

The Masjid’s Traditional Role: During the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Masajid served not only as places of worship, but also as schools, community centers, spaces for discussion, and centers of governance. They played a vital role in addressing social needs and strengthening Muslim society. Today, many Masajid are used primarily for worship, leaving their broader potential for education and community development unrealized.

An Opportunity for Renewal: Reviving Masajid as active centers for prayer, learning, and constructive community engagement can help address important social and religious needs while strengthening local Muslim communities.

Why Students Need These Spaces: Many students—especially those from under-resourced households—lack a quiet place to study because of noise and distractions at home. The calm environment of a Masjid can provide a focused setting for learning while helping young Muslims strengthen their religious identity.

Using Available Space: Upper floors and spare rooms in many Masajid remain largely unused except for brief periods during Friday prayers. These existing spaces offer a valuable opportunity to serve students and the wider community throughout the week.

How the Study Circle Works: Masjid Study Circles transform underused areas into welcoming centers for academic growth. Movable folding tables allow each space to serve two purposes: the tables can be removed for Friday prayers and restored afterward to create a quiet, productive study environment.

Free Academic Support: Students use the facility at no cost and bring their own study materials. A locally hired, part-time math and English tutor assists with homework and helps students build confidence and academic skills.

Lasting Community Impact: This initiative can give future generations access to a strong learning environment without adding financial pressure to their families. More than a way to repurpose space, it empowers communities, nurtures talent, and renews the Masjid’s role as a center for holistic development.

A Scalable Model: By making better use of existing resources, Masjid Study Circles can create meaningful, lasting benefits and inspire communities across the nation to adopt similar programs.
